Background

Just like any utility is viewed as a monthly charge service, be it natural gas or electricity or cable television, increasingly, software is also becoming to be a service and delivery models such as SaaS (Software as a Service) have evolved and matured taking this very concept to fruition.

 

V3iT has envisioned this model of service delivery and has assumed the software service to be delivered over the internet. With VPN and other secure technologies maturing, it is really secure these days to get these services remotely over the internet.

The key characteristics of SaaS, according to IDC, include[1]: network-based access to, and management of, commercially available packaged application (i.e., non-custom) software, such as an ERP and extended ERP applications.

Activities that are managed from central locations rather than at each customer's site, enabling customers to access applications remotely via the Web.

Application delivery that typically is closer to a one-to-many model than to a one-to-one model, including architecture, pricing, partnering, and management characteristics .

There are two types of SaaS providers. The first has often been referred to as an Application Service Provider (ASP), the second is software on Demand.
